Building on a successful career as a session guitarist and music producer Thomas has quickly made a name for himself as a film composer both in Australia and overseas.
His feature film score for the crime thriller The Reckoning won the award for Best Music at the British Independent Film Festival 2014. The John V. Soto film - who also won Best Director at BIFF, stars Jonathan LaPaglia, Luke Hemsworth and Viva Bianca and was officially elected to screen in Cannes as part of the Antipodes collection for Cannes Cinephiles 2015.
Thomas received a nomination for Best Original Song Composed For Screen at the 2013 APRA-AGSC Screen Music Awards. The song Fallen Dreams features Emily Lubitz from Tin Pan Orange on vocals and was composed and produced by Thomas for the film Reverse Runner. In 2012 his score to the US supernatural thriller Key was nominated for Best Feature Length Original Score at the Washington D.C World Music and Independent Film Festival.
Thomas has scored a number of award winning short films that have featured in film festivals around the world including Melbourne International Film Festival, Flickerfest, Fantastic Fest, Sitges International Film Festival and Palm Springs International Shortfest. Notably the horror short Waterborne was recently selected as a staff pick on Vimeo.
Thomas has worked on some of the US and Australia’s highest rating TV shows having recently collaborated with the DA’s Office on the latest season of The Biggest Loser(US) Qantas Access All Areas and the travel show Anh does Italy. As a music producer and arranger Thomas has worked on the Logie award winning My Kitchen Rules, The Amazing Race Australia, House Rules and When Love Comes to Town.
In 2014 Thomas worked with LA composer Brian Tyler (The Avengers, Iron Man 3, Thor) on Furious 7, arranging and producing synthestrations.
As a guitarist and producer Thomas has toured and recorded with ARIA winner Monique Brumby, featuring on her critically acclaimed album Signal Hill. He has worked both in the studio and on stage with renowned Musical Director Greg Mills, The Voice contestants Nicholas Roy, Jimmy Cupples and Australian Idol contestant Brandon Burns. His orchestral arrangements for Malaysian Pop Star Juwita Suwito have been performed both in Melbourne by Orchestre Nouveau and in Kuala Lumpur by the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra.
Thomas studied composition at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music under Stuart Greenbaum and Screen Music at the Australian Film, Television and Radio School under Martin Armiger, graduating with distinction from both courses. In 2011 he was invited to participate in the prestigious NYU/ASCAP Film Scoring workshop in the memory of Buddy Baker where he received mentoring from composers Sean Callary(Homeland, 24) Ira Newborn(Naked Gun, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective) and Mark Snow(The X-files, Smallville).
Thomas has also worked with and been mentored by one of Australia’s finest film composers Bruce Rowland (Man from Snowy River, Phar Lap, The Cup) assisting him on the Australian Outback Arena Show.
